Maureen was born and educated in Belfast.
Following teacher training in England she taught Art to primary school children. At this time she followed her love for fabric. As a dressmaker she really enjoyed selecting the most appropriate fabric for each project.
Maureen enjoyed a successful and varied career in Education. Following 19 years as Head-teacher in primary education she had the opportunity to retire from school. Now was the chance to develop her creative talents.
While maybe she has come late to painting – she loves it! Over the last 12 years she has brought her initial creative work in fabric to her painting. She has a passion for colour, texture, light, shadows and reflections. Her painting journey began in oils and acrylics.
Maureen was then introduced to Encaustic Wax and finds the medium intriguing. Maureen is self taught in this medium and loves the experimentation this allows.
Travelling allows Maureen to experience different architecture, building materials, decorations and adornments on buildings, colours, textures and varying light levels. This offers a rich resource pool for her work.
